Welcome

Welcome to our developer community,

To start contributing to MapleCity by creating sprites, read this complete guide

If you're interested in programming AS3, visit developer center and start programming to-do list at there.

You need to create the scripts/functions/features for the game in AS3 independently.

Meaning, you create a feature(as in our to-do list) independently(without the source script) and send it to us via this email address. We will integrate and compile your script/contribution to the main MapleCity(MC) library. We will not expose the main source code to public for some security reasons and terms of use as stated here.

For example if you want to create a "quest" script for the game, create it on your own(as you like), then send it to us.This including the essential pictures and graphics that required to run your script on MC.We will do the rest to integrate your script with ours.

You can join the developer community easily, but you rights on the project is depended on your contribution to the project.

if you have any question regarding MapleCity, feel free to let us know.

How to MD5SUM

What is MD5SUM
The program md5sum is designed to verify data integrity using the MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) 128-bit cryptographic hash. MD5 hashes used properly can confirm both file integrity and authenticity. In terms of integrity, an MD5 hash comparison detects changes in files that would cause errors. The possibility of changes (errors) is proportional to the size of the file; the possibility of errors increase as the file becomes larger. It is a very good idea to run an MD5 hash comparison check when you have a file like an operating system install CD that has to be 100% correct. While security flaws in the MD5 algorithm have been uncovered, MD5 hashes are still useful when you trust the organization that produces them. Moving to more secure hashes like SHA-256 and Whirlpool is under discussion.

MD5SUM on Windows

Windows does not come with md5sum. You must download one from another location, preferably one that you trust. There are also graphical tools such as the one used in the walk-through provided below.
  1. Download and install winMD5Sum, a free and open source hash verification program.

  2. Right-click the file

  3. Click Send To, then winMD5Sum.

  4. Wait for winMD5Sum to load and finish the checksum (this may take a significant amount of time depending on your computer's performance).

  5. Copy the corresponding hash from Exoot Hashes into the bottom text box.

  6. Click "Compare"

  7. A message box will say "MD5 Check Sums are the same" if the hashes are equal.

Troubleshooting

My game is lagging a lot when I try to play.

You may have too much running on your computer. Try closing any unneeded programs as well extra tabs in your browser. It may also help to restart your browser, or even try a different one.

Additionally, some games (such as MapleCity) write a lot of data to your computer for saving your game. You may need to increase the amount that you allow Flash to save. You can do this by right-clicking on the game and clicking on "Settings...", then selecting the storage tab (it looks like a folder) and setting it to Unlimited.

My keys are sticking or not responding in the game I'm playing.

This is a problem that has been observed in Internet Explorer 8. If you're seeing it in other browsers, please use the Contact Us link in the Help menu at the top of the page to send in a non-game bug report to us so we can look into it.

If you are using IE8, we're working on trying to get a fix for it, but until then you have a few options. The simplest is to use another browser. Firefox and Chrome are both good alternatives that don't have the sticking problems with our application. If you must use IE8, one of our users (thank you bbiernat!) found a solution for the problem. You can read about it here in our tech support forum.

My save games are missing! Help!

Save games are stored as local files (called local shared objects or .sol files) on your computer. They're kind of like cookies only they're specific to Flash. This means that save games are only stored on a particular computer, so if you change computers you won't have access to them. Things like clearing your cookies and clearing your browser cache shouldn't delete them, but some software that is designed to remove temporary files for security reasons may delete your .sol files.

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do if you lose your files. We don't store them on our servers so sadly we can't help you with them. If you were playing on another computer you may be able to find the .sol files and transfer them over, though it can be complex to find them and make sure they go in the correct folders (this thread may help). You also may want to check that you're logged in as the correct user on your computer since .sol files are specific to whomever is logged in at that time.

1. Go to Folder Settings in Windows and turn hidden folders ON.

2. Next, go to

  • Windows XP and Vista:
    • For Web sites: %APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\<random code>\<domain>\<path>\<object name>.sol
    • For AIR Applications, %APPDATA%\<AIR Application Reverse Domain Name>\Local Store\#SharedObjects\<flash filename>.swf\<object name>.sol
  • Mac OS X:
    • For Web sites, ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/<random code>/<domain>/<path from webserver>/<object name>.sol and~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/<object name>.sol
    • For AIR Applications, ~/Library/Preferences/<AIR Application Name>/Local Store/#SharedObjects/<flash filename>.swf/<object name>.sol
  • Linux/Unix:
    • ~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects/<random id>/<domain>/<path>/<flash filename>.swf/<object name>.sol
3. There should be folders, named chat.kongregate.com or armorgames.com or a different website you played it on

4. Copy .sol files over to the chat.kongregate.com Overwrite any existing data there.

MapleCity Sprites

MapleCity Monster Sprite Creating Scheme
for Flash CS4 / Flash CS3 / Flash 8

Basically, MapleCity is a flash game developed in Action Script 3 AVM2. So its more preferable to use Adobe Flash Creative Suite 4, version 10 during the development progress. You can download the monster sprites at BannedStory

DOWNLOADING THE SPRITES

Start the BannedStory stimulator
The Startup window is the first window you will see. From here, you can choose which simulator to run: either BannedStory, MobMaker or both at the same time. In this case you select MobMaker to generate monster sprites. You can also disable the use of thumbnails. This will speed up the process of downloading all the required files to run BannedStory from the site.

Startup Progress
After you click the Start button, the downloading process begins. If the data or the thumbnails cannot be found, the program will notify the missing files it could not find.Create a monster layer. Add a monster into the stage by using the toolbar the the left which holds the most common tools you will be using. Next is saving the sprites. The Save Image window can be located in the menu bar, in File -> Save Image. From here you can save the image you have made in BannedStory.
Save Window
You can select to save either the whole scene, or a specific layer from the layer manager. By pressing the "Make Preview" button at the top, you can generate a preview of the current element you want to save. You can also choose to save you image either in PNG or JPG format. You choose PNG. so that you can either save the image with transparency, or you can choose any of the featured three colors at the bottom. If you pick for background color "Nearest Color Layer", the background color of the image will be the nearest color layer below the selected layer, or white if no color layer exists below the selected layer.

With the sprite sheet window, you can create a PNG image for each state of the animation. The generated image will include all the frames of each state. All you need to do is choose the layer to generate the sprite sheets, and BannedStory will automatically make all the images. After it finishes, you will be prompted to download a zip file that will have all the images.

Important: if a sprite sheet turns out to have a width or a height bigger than 2880 pixels, it will be ignored and not added in the generated zip (this is a limitation of the Flash Player). Also, if a zip file gets larger than 600 KB, the zip creation process will halt and you will not be prompted to download the zip (some skills and monsters could get affected by this).
